Recent survey results suggest that workers underestimate the amount of compensation a personal injury lawyer could win for them following a work-place injury.
The results of the YouGov survey commissioned by personal injury lsolicitors Hubbard Pegman & Whitney (HPW) show that 90% of the 2000 adults polled, underestimated the amount they could receive.
Personal injury solicitors dismiss the notion of a compensation culture
44% of respondents believed would expect to receive £2,000 or less and 61% £5,000 or less for fracturing an arm in the workplace when in fact personal injury lawyers could help such an individual receive about £6,000. For a broken leg meanwhile, personal injury lawyers typically secure compensation of around £8,650 despite 46% believing it would be £5,000 or less.
Personal injury solicitors claim that such statistics disprove the existence of the much touted "compensation culture" that supposedly exists in Britain today.
Charlotte Pegman, Managing Partner of personal injury solicitors HPW, says: "Our experience is that British people are often too stoic - failing to claim compensation as they are worried about losing their job, even in the case of injuries causing permanent disablement."
The importance of consulting a personal injury solicitor
There is legal protection for people afraid of losing their job in such a situation and equally it is unnecessarily presumptuous to assume that it is a worker's fault rather than employer's without consulting a personal injury lawyers first.
Although never foolproof, consulting an experienced personal injury lawyers will be able to give you an idea of the likelihood of bringing a successful claim, the probable compensation should you win and an estimate of the costs as well as your options for funding the case.
